Linda Smith: Music
Ode To A Modernday Mother
(Linda Smith)
It's hard to raise a daughter on your own. There is that first sadness you feel when you leave to go to work and she cries and cries for you. Then there is the second one when she doesn't cry any more and she expects you to leave.
Ode To A Modernday Mother
(verse 1)
The day starts at 6am
As I brush the sleep from my eyes
I work out as I feel the sweat
Running down my back
And I start the tub and wake you
Then it’s breakfast and we go our separate ways
(pre - chorus)
and today is like yesterday
cept we got up late
and I told you that I loved you
as I walked out the door
cause I gotta go to work today
I gotta pay the bills
I gotta go to work today
(verse 2)
All day long I run around
And on a good day I’m ahead
I write a list of all the things
That need to be done
Before I go to bed
Cause after work I have to run to the store
And pick up the things that we need
Then I make supper and pick up around the house
And mop the bathroom floor
(chorus)
(bridge)
and I used to have a second job
and that’s where I’d be
if I hadn’t quit
so we sit and watch tv till we go to bed
at least we saw eachother today
(chorus out)
